Vintage Teacup directors Lawrence and Kirsty’s eyes met over the bonnet of a 1926 Morris Commercial Lorry in September 2008. Lawrence was attracted to Kirsty’s argumentativeness and stubborn-mindedness and after nearly two years of asking Kirsty finally said yes and agreed to marry him.
But the couple had other things on their mind and the wedding didn’t happen for another two years. In the meantime, Kirsty graduated (and they had a baby) and they started looking for an antique globe on Portabello Market for Kirsty’s graduation pictures (she had studied Geology and Geophysics).
Unable to find an antique globe the couple returned home with not one but five tea trios. This quickly became twenty within the space of a week. And 600 within the space of a few months Add this to the fact they already had a houseful of typewriters, cameras and sewing machines and it soon became clear they had a collecting problem.
The Vintage Teacup Hire Company was born! The first event was their own daughters christening in 2010 and was followed up by a hen party, a grown up birthday party, two weddings, a funeral, a wedding anniversary and a child’s birthday party over the next year. Then they decided to join in on the fun and get married too. The rest, as they say, is just the beginning…
